The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Spain, Albares maintained in the last hours various contacts with the main actors in this process to express their support for these talks, which are scheduled to begin this Friday in Mexico, EFE said.
The Spanish Foreign Minister contacted, among others, his Venezuelan counterpart, Félix Plasencia, and with the Venezuelan Chargé d’Affaires in Spain, Mauricio Rodríguez, as well as representatives of the Venezuelan opposition.
Albares reiterated to the government representatives Spain’s willingness to contribute to the negotiation process that will begin this Friday in Mexico to solve the country’s crisis.
The delegations of the Venezuelan government and sectors of the opposition meet this Friday in Mexico City to begin the process of dialogue and negotiation with the mediation of Norway and the Mexican government.
The appointment is part of what was agreed in the memorandum of understanding signed on August 13 in the Mexican capital between the government of Venezuela, represented by the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, and the Unitary Platform of Venezuela, headed by the opposition Gerardo Blyde.
For their part, the members of the International Contact Group, promoted by the European Union (EU), gave this Thursday a “welcome” to the beginning of the “comprehensive negotiations, led by Venezuelans themselves, which have started in Mexico.”
In a joint statement released by the European External Action Service (EEAS), the members of the International Contact Group reiterate their call to give “a common response” to the situation in Venezuela, in particular by supporting this negotiation process.
“This inclusive dialogue process can lay the foundations for a consensual solution to the Venezuelan crisis,” say the members of the Group and, therefore, urge both parties to participate “constructively and in good faith” at the negotiating table. .
